40-Year-Old Facing Charges After Alleged Hit And Run

Saint John police say they responded to a hit and run on the city’s east side on Tuesday.

According to a release from the force, it happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Loch Lomond Road.

“The suspect vehicle was travelling [westbound] on Loch Lomond Road when it crossed the centre line and collided with the complainant’s vehicle,” said the release.

The collision sent a 45-year-old woman to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the suspect fled the scene but was later located by officers in a nearby mall parking lot.

“The suspect vehicle failed to stop for police and a brief pursuit ensued in the parking lot of the mall nearly colliding with a police vehicle,” said the release.

Officers called off the chase for public safety reasons and the vehicle fled onto Westmorland Road toward McAllister Drive.

At around 7:20 p.m., police said a 40-year-old man was located and arrested for failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to stop for police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The accused was also issued a ticket for driving without a valid license, and his vehicle was seized.

He is scheduled to appear in court on March 31.
