Many New Brunswickers will be spending their Saturday digging out from the first major winter blast.
Environment Canada has issued winter storm warnings for much of southern and eastern New Brunswick, including Moncton, Greater Saint John, Sussex and Miramichi.
Meteorologist Darrin Borgel says the storm will track along the coast of Nova Scotia, where they’ll get mostly rain, “In New Brunswick, it is going to stay all as snow. It is going to be quite heavy at times later this afternoon and early this evening with some very, very strong winds. There will be a lot of blowing and drifting snow, so some pretty treacherous conditions likely later today and tonight.”
Snow is expected to begin falling late this morning.
“In the Moncton area, sitting in the sweet spot right now, looking at between 25 and 40 centimetres of snow by the time it is all over tomorrow morning. Down towards Saint John, perhaps a little less in the 15 to 30 centimetre range,” Borgel says.
Further north and west, areas like St. Stephen and Fredericton will see around 15 centimetres.
But Borgel says it won’t last long. He expects the storm will be wrapped up by early Saturday morning.
He adds, for next week we can expect a cold blast of air with some frigid temperatures, so be prepared to bundle up.
