The Saint John Sea Dogs will be training in Rivière-du-Loup, Que., on a temporary basis.
It comes as New Brunswick remains under Level 3 of its COVID-19 winter plan.
Under Level 3 of the plan, sports teams are not allowed to take part in games or practices.
“Our players need to be ready to play games once we restart and high-level athletes can’t stop training completely over an extended period of time,” Trevor Georgie, president and general manager of the Sea Dogs, said in a statement.
While COVID-related restrictions remain on games and practices in New Brunswick, there are no restrictions for the Saint John Sea Dogs to train outside the province.
Other Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams have permission to train under certain restrictions in Nova Scotia and Quebec, according to a news release from the team.
“It’s important that we allow our student-athletes to continue training as it’s vital for their health, morale, and psychological well-being,” said Georgie.
“This is a temporary solution and we will continue to follow our rigorous protocols. We look forward to returning home to TD Station and performing for our fans soon.”
The team is travelling to its new training site on Monday, Jan. 24.
Meanwhile, the Moncton Wildcats are also heading to Québec and will be training temporarily in Quebec City.
