Suspicious packages containing a suspected chemical irritant were delivered to three constituency offices in Nova Scotia on Monday.
The first was discovered at South Shore-St. Margarets MP Rick Perkins’ office at the municipal building in Barrington.
RCMP were notified, and the building was evacuated as the investigation opened.
Later, it was learned similar packages arrived at Perkins’ office in Bridgewater, and at West Nova MP Chris d’Entremont’s Yarmouth office.
d’Entremont says it’s a first for him in 20 years of public service.
“I’ve never received a package of this sort. We do get a lot of mail without return addresses at the office. In this case, it was a regular Manilla envelope with no return address,” he says.
d’Entremont says his staff were notified by Perkins office, so no one opened the envelope, and all MPs have been informed.
Police say the investigation is in its preliminary stages, but are expected to release more details sometime Tuesday.
