The New Brunswick Legislature will resume sitting on Tuesday, but the public will not be permitted inside.
Interim Liberal Leader Roger Melanson says masks will still be required for MLA’s, “As we have MLA”s who are immune compromised and we also want to make sure that everyone is safe. There will also be more adjustments as we better understand the impact of the decision of lifting all measures. Wear your mask if you sitting on the floor of the Legislature and everyone can sit on the floor. If you don’t want to wear your mask, you can go in the gallery.”
People’s Alliance leader Kris Austin and Miramichi MLA Michelle Conroy voiced their opposition to the move which will continue to keep people from entering the building to watch the legislature’s proceedings when they resume on Tuesday.
Austin says, “Mrs. Conroy and I see no reason why people shouldn’t be permitted to visit the legislature. After all, it is the people’s house and they have a right to visit and see their
political representatives at work during question period and other times such as the unveiling of the next provincial budget.”
The first order of business when the Legislature resumes on Tuesday, is the provincial budget.
