Fisheries and Oceans Canada is working to locate an entangled North Atlantic right whale.
The 14-year-old female whale was spotted yesterday, east of Gaspé, Quebec.
There’s no word on the type of gear that the whale is entangled in or where the gear came from.
The DFO says if the whale is located, efforts may be made to attempt disentanglement, depending on weather and sea conditions.
Marine mammal response partners are on stand-by.
DFO will provide updates on this situation as needed.
