Police say three people have been arrested after a weekend pursuit involving a stolen vehicle.
Saint John police say officers first tried to stop the vehicle uptown around 6:40 p.m. Saturday.
“The vehicle fled and proceeded to drive recklessly in the uptown area driving through stop signs and down Prince William Street in the wrong direction,” police said in a news release.
“The police terminated the pursuit due to heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the area.”
Police began to establish a perimeter to search for the vehicle using GPS.
A few minutes later, at around 7 p.m., another officer spotted the vehicle on Rothesay Avenue.
In the interest of public safety, police attempted to have the vehicle’s engine remotely shut off,” police said.
Police said the vehicle went through a red light at Bayside Drive and Mount Pleasant Avenue East, colliding with another vehicle.
The 38-year-old driver was arrested for possession of stolen property, flight from police, and driving while prohibited. He was held in custody.
Two passengers, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old, were also arrested on related offenses and released on undertakings.
The 16-year-old was transported to the hospital with what police describe as non-life threatening injuries.
