N.B. Hospital Recognized For Energy Efficiency Commitment

A New Brunswick hospital is being recognized nationally for its commitment to energy efficiency.

The Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH) has received an ENERGY STAR Canada Award in the “Building of the Year – Hospital” category.

The awards recognize businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy achievements

“Horizon is proud to maintain a culture that promotes environmental sustainability and stewardship, while reducing waste, emissions and improving energy efficiency across our organization, and receiving this ENERGY STAR award provides further validation of this commitment,” Jeff Carter, Horizon VP Capital Assets, Infrastructure and Operations, said in a news release.

“The important work being done at SJRH and across our organization not only reduces our environmental impact, but also helps improve the comfort of patients and staff while reducing our operating costs.”

Horizon Health said the hospital has implemented several key changes over the years to boost its overall energy performance.

Such as adding occupancy sensors in the washrooms and administrative areas, switching to digital thermostats, retrofitting air handling units, upgrading lighting, and installing solar panels.

Back in 2018, the hospital became the first health care facility in Canada to earn the ENERGY STAR certification label for advancing energy efficiency.
