Saint John police are looking for a suspect in connection with an incident that led to a heavy police presence in the uptown on Sunday night.
Police said they responded to a report of a person yelling and pointing a handgun in the area of Wentworth and Union streets around 8 p.m.
In a news release on Monday afternoon, police said the suspect allegedly fled into a building on Wentworth Street.
“Patrol Officers, K9 and Emergency Tactical Services responded. The area and an apartment building were thoroughly searched but the suspect was not located,” police said in the release.
Nearly a dozen police vehicles were on the scene, including the police force’s armoured rescue vehicle. Several officers could also be seen carrying long guns.

Union Street was closed between Carmarthen Street to Pitt Street, along with Wentworth Street between Union Street and Elliott Row. People were told to avoid the area while residents living nearby were asked to shelter in place during the incident.
Officers were focused on a building near the intersection of Wentworth and Union streets. Several people made their way out of the building throughout the evening.
Police tweeted just before 12:30 a.m. Monday that the police operation had concluded.
The suspect is described as being in his 30s, 5’10” tall, and wearing beige shorts, a blue The North Face hoodie and a red ball cap.
