Point Lepreau Still Offline After Partial Loss Of Power

No word yet on what caused a partial loss of power at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station.

In an update on Thursday, NB Power said the plant was taken offline Wednesday following the incident.

“Station staff responded as per process and procedures and are safely executing response plans,” the utility said in a news release.

NB Power also confirmed a leak was identified in a small instrument line that is part of the heat transport system.

The utility said the leakage was contained within the reactor “using approved processes and procedures.”

It also said there is no risk to employees, the public or the environment as a result of the leakage.

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, which regulates nuclear power, said it continues to monitor the situation.

Officials with the commission said the generating remains in a “stable status.”
