Protests Planned This Week In N.B. Against Bill 23

Some of New Brunswick’s unions have protests against Bill 23 planned for Monday afternoon.

Members of the Federation of Labour, its affiliate unions and Unifor, will rally outside of the offices of Labour Minister Trevor Holder, and MLAs Ernie Steeves, Arlene Dunn and Jill Green.

Public and private-sector unions have been outspoken against the bill that will enable the government to employ scab labour during labour disputes.

“The labour movement will not sit quietly while Premier Blaine Higgs passes legislation that strips rights away from the hard-working people of this province,” says Daniel Legere, President of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour.

The peaceful protests will be held from 11:30 until 1 pm on Monday.

Where:

Trevor Holder’s Office – 229 Churchill Blvd., Unit 2, Saint John, N.B.

Arlene Dunn’s Office – 55 Union St., Suite 140, Saint John, N.B.

Jill Green’s Office – 215 Main St., Unit 4, Fredericton, N.B.

Ernie Steeves’ Office – 1966 Mountain Rd., Moncton, N.B.

“We asked for the opportunity to consult and it appears Bill-23 will pass without this consultation. We intend to continue the fight against this anti-worker legislation,” says Jennifer Murray, Unifor Atlantic Regional Director.
