Woman’s Car Stolen As She Picks Up Her Mail: Police

Police say a woman’s car was stolen on Monday after she stopped to get her mail in Saint John.

In a news release, police said it happened at a community mailbox on Westfield Road just before 6 p.m.

“The woman flagged down a neighbour, they followed her vehicle and called 911,” said the release from the Saint John Police Force.

The suspect hit another vehicle in the Grand Bay-Westfield area before continuing north. One person in that vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Police said the suspect eventually lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a ditch in the Welsford area.

“The owner found her vehicle abandoned and heavily damaged. She then saw the suspect nearby and called police,” said the release.

A 23-year-old man was arrested nearby by Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP. He is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
