N.B. Athletes Heading To 2023 Canada Winter Games In PEI

The training has paid off for Team New Brunswick athletes.

There are 210 athletes, about 70 coaches, Managers and technical staff, plus 22 Mission team members heading to Prince Edward Island this week for the 2023 Canada Winter Games.

Chef de Mission Nicole Smith says this event is a great stepping stone for the athletes, “It gives them an opportunity to compete at a national level. We are lucky in Canada to have such an event. It gives them exposure to a multi-sport event as well.”

Athletes are ready for competitions in a number of sports for New Brunswick including alpine skiing, archery, badminton, biathlon, boxing, cross-country skiing, curling, fencing, figure skating, gymnastics, trampoline, hockey, judo, karate, ringette, speed skating, squash, table tennis and wheelchair basketball.

“For table tennis, New Brunswick has a team for the first time in twenty years,” Smith adds.

The Games are held every two years, alternating between winter and summer.

They’ll run from February 18 to March 5.
