A ceremony in Ottawa will celebrate the coronation of King Charles III this spring.
Performances, speeches and unveilings will take place to acknowledge the King’s special relationship with Canada over the past 50 years.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is inviting Canadians to help mark the on May 6 in Ottawa, as well as in their own communities.
“His Majesty has a long history and a special relationship with Canada, and we look forward to celebrating his Coronation in May. In addition to the ceremony in Ottawa, I invite Canadians to take part in events and activities that will take place in their communities to mark this important occasion. Together, we look to the future and the continued betterment of the Commonwealth and its people” The Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada.
The event will happen the same day of the actual coronation in London at Westminster Abbey. The coronation will be followed by various public events on May 7 and 8, 2023, including a Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle. The Canadian delegation attending the Coronation Service will be announced in the coming weeks.
No word yet on whether May 6 will become a public holiday.
King Charles claimed the throne on September 8, 2022 after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96.
