Cyclist strikes thin wire suspended across park trail

Saint John police say a case of mischief at a popular city park could have resulted in serious injuries.

Police say a cyclist riding on a trail in Rockwood Park struck a thin wire suspended at head level across the trail.

The incident happened sometime between 11:30 a.m. and noon on Saturday, according to police.

“The cyclist was wearing a helmet with a face guard and, therefore, was not injured,” police said in a news release Tuesday.

“Police are concerned that this act of mischief could have resulted in serious injury had the level of protective equipment not been worn by the cyclist.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saint John Police Force at 506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
