UPDATED: Power restored in St. Martins after nearly 24 hours

The lights are back on in the St. Martins region after an outage that extended over two days.

Around 900 customers lost electricity over the noon hour Thursday, according to NB Power.

Officials initially expected the power would be back on by mid-afternoon Thursday.

But it took crews until late Friday morning to get the outage repaired and the lights back on.

“It’s related to equipment issues which have been difficult to troubleshoot but crews are still on site,” NB Power spokesperson Marc Belliveau said in an email earlier on Friday.

St. Martins School was forced to close early Thursday due to the outage and is closed again Friday.
