Rogers takeover of Shaw given go-ahead in $26 billion merge

Rogers takeover of Shaw Communications has been given the green light.

Industry Minister Francois-Phillipe Champaigne gave the final sign-off to the $26 billion dollar merge.

“What we expect and what we want is to see lower prices. If I don’t see lower prices in Canada, what I’m saying is that everything will be on the table,” Champaigne said.

Champaigne says to make things more affordable, there needs to be more competition.

Shaw will sell its Freedom Mobile license to Quebec’s VideoTron for expansion outside of Quebec.

This will close the deal after a two-year process that began in March 2021.
