Expanded Grand Manan ferry service this summer

The province is adding more ferry crossings to and from Grand Manan this summer.

A second ferry normally runs for several weeks during the busy tourism season.

This year, that was scheduled to occur between June 19 and Sept. 17, according to Coastal Transport.

But this year’s provincial budget includes funding to extend that supplemental service by three weeks.

A spokesperson for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure says the second ferry will start one week earlier in the spring and run two weeks further into the fall.

“Negotiations are ongoing with partners to determine the added supplemental season cost,” Kelly Cormier said in an email.

The province plans to invest $34.8 million in the provincial ferry network in 2023-24, an increase of about $8.6 million.
