Gordon Lightfoot dies at 84

Gordon Lightfoot has passed away.

The legendary singer-songwriter died in a Toronto hospital, his family confirmed in a statement.

He penned folk classics in the 60s and 70s like ‘The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,’ ‘Sundown’ and ‘If You Could Read My Mind.’

Tributes to the Ontario native have been pouring in, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calling Lightfoot one of Canada’s greatest singer-songwriters.

Bob Dylan once said he couldn’t think of a Gordon Lightfoot song he didn’t like, and he wished his songs would last forever.

Gordon Lightfoot was 84.
