Performers needed for community production at Capitol Theatre

The Capitol Theatre needs performers to help celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Auditions will be held on May 15th for a community production written by local artist CJ Norris.

“The Capitol has done a community production in June, every year, but the pandemic halted that for a few years. This is the first time that it’s happened in three years. So this is the grand return,” Norris says.

Norris is the playwright for this production and mentor Marshall Button will also assist.

Rehearsals will be held in May and June, with performances on the Capitol Theatre stage on June 19 and 20.

This project will draw inspiration from performance styles of the past, namely vaudeville, and highlight the legacy of prominent figures in Greater Moncton’s arts history.

It also includes roles in both English and French and they are also looking for We are also looking for people with particular talents like juggling, dancing, singing or playing musical instruments.

Auditions are open to anyone over the age of 14 years old.

“No experience is required, so it’s a great opportunity for anyone who hasn’t done theatre before, to come and dip their toes in. There are lots of opportunities for large speaking roles or an ensemble sort of capacity. “Performers can prepare a short monologue, or play us a song. If anyone has any special talents aside from acting, they’re welcome to bring that so it’s kind of open-ended. It’s really casual and we hope that it won’t be too intimidating and that it’ll just be a good experience,” Norris adds.

If you’d like to audition send an email to academy@capitol.nb.ca. You’ll receive a form to fill out with additional information.
