Man charged after armed robbery in Upper Letang

Police say one person has been charged after an armed robbery in the St. George area.

It happened at a business on Main Street in Upper Letang around 2:20 p.m. Monday.

RCMP allege that someone waving a knife entered the business and tried to steal alcohol.

“The individual then fled the scene before police arrived,” Mounties said in a news release on Wednesday.

Officers identified a person of interest and arrested a 19-year-old man at a St. George home.

Police said they also recovered the alleged weapon that was used during the incident.

The suspect appeared in court on Tuesday and was charged with assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon to commit an offence.

He was released on conditions and is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 29.
