Missing U.S. kayaker’s body found off Campobello Island

Officials say the body of a missing kayaker from the United States has been found off the coast of Campobello Island.

An empty and overturned kayak was found in the Liberty Point area on Sunday morning, according to several media reports.

That prompted a joint search operation by members of the Canadian Coast Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Crews found numerous personal belongings in and around the kayak, including the victim’s U.S. passport and driver’s licence, along with a cell phone and car keys.

On Monday morning, the body of a man from Augusta, Maine, was found in the area of Raccoon Point.

Officials said the victim was wearing a lifejacket at the time his body was recovered.
