Saint John nabs N.B. junior baseball title

The Saint John Alpines have won the 2023 New Brunswick Junior Baseball League title.

Saint John clinched a 5-4 win over the Chatham Ironmen on Wednesday in the fifth and deciding game of the series.

Timothy Crawford, Tyler Doucette, Connor Hill, Alex Maloney, and Jacob McCarthy scored runs for the Alpines.

Ben Cairns was the winning pitcher, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out three and walking one over three-and-a-third innings.

It was a come-from-behind win for the Alpines, who were trailing 4-3 at the bottom of the sixth inning.

Chatham won the first two games and was on track to sweep the best-of-five series in three games.

However, the Alpines came out victorious in games three and four, forcing a fifth game to ultimately decide who would take home the championship title.
