Fire damages west Saint John home

A fire has caused extensive damage to a home on Saint John’s west side.

Fire crews were called to a report of smoke in the Coster Street area on Thursday morning.

“Once on scene, the crew located a house on fire,” Saint John Firefighters, the union representing firefighters, said in a social media post.

Crews worked to search inside the home for any trapped occupants while also advancing hose lines to put out the flames.

Fire officials said the blaze began in the basement of the home and extended into the attic space.

“There were no reported injuries, unfortunately, the home sustained significant damage,” said the post.

No word at this point on what caused the fire.
