Man arrested after 2 motor vehicle thefts

Saint John police say they have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with two motor vehicle thefts.

Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, police got a call about a school bus allegedly stolen from the St. Stephen area being spotted on the city’s west side.

Officers located the bus in a parking lot on Dever Road and found a man inside the vehicle.

The man was arrested for possessing stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle, and breaching probation. He was then released with a future court date.

Several hours later, around 1 a.m. Sunday, police said a pickup truck was reportedly stolen from a business on Fairville Boulevard.

Officers received a tip from the public and located the truck in a parking lot on Church Avenue in Saint John around 7:20 p.m. Monday.

The same man was arrested in possession of the stolen truck and held in custody.

Police said the accused has been remanded to jail and has a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday.
