The location of a Drop-In Centre for the homeless in St. Stephen was announced Friday afternoon.
Neighbourhood Works Inc. is launching a 24/7 drop-in to provide essential support, and will open its doors at 7pm Friday night.
A news release states, the Centre will offer a warm place for the homeless to go, where they can get something to eat and drink.
It will not offer overnight sleeping accommodations though due to regulatory constraints. It will provide a place for them 24 hours a day to get out of harsh weather conditions.
It will be located at 56 Union Street, and there will be an Outreach Worker available.
The Centre states there is currently a need for volunteers and food donations.
St. Stephen Council declared a State of Emergency on Monday night after the death of a man in a park over the weekend.
Public Safety Minister Kris Austin revoked that State of Emergency on Thursday. In a letter to St. Stephen Mayor Allan MacEachern. Austin encouraged him to revisit the options of dialogue and collaboration in addressing his concern with homelessness.
Meetings were held last night and today with Social Development Minister Jill Green.
