Woman found dead after Grand Bay-Westfield fire

A woman has been found dead after an early morning fire in Grand Bay-Westfield.

Emergency crews were called to a home on Highland Road around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.

“Upon arrival, the home was heavily involved in fire,” said a news release from the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield.

Officials said the body of an 80-year-old woman was located inside of the home.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the woman’s exact cause of death.

“The investigation is ongoing, however, the fire is not considered suspicious at this time,” said the release.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help the family of the woman, who was living with her son and his dog.

The dog also died in the fire while the woman’s son was at work at the time, according to the fundraising campaign.
