UPDATE: Suspect in custody after taxi driver robbed

Saint John police say a man has been arrested after a taxi driver was robbed in the city’s south end.

Officers were called to the area of Duke and Carmarthen streets at around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.

“A male suspect armed with a weapon took money and other property from the driver and fled on foot heading west on Duke Street,” police said in a news release on Friday.

“The driver lost sight of the suspect near the intersection of Sydney Street and Duke Street.”

Officers responded and searched the area with help from the K9 unit, but the suspect was not found.

No physical injuries were reported during the incident, said police.

Investigators turned to the public for help on Friday, releasing video surveillance photos of the suspect.

As a result, police said they were able to identify the suspect and arrested him for robbery at around 2:40 p.m. Friday.
