A long time leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada has passed away.
Ed Broadbent was 87 years old.
Broadbent led the NDP from 1975 until 1989.
He also established the Broadbent Institute, an Ottawa-based think tank.
In a statement, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says “Beyond his political career, Broadbent dedicated his life to helping others, including by advancing gender equality, promoting Indigenous rights, and defending democracy.”
