Saint John Transit reviewing safety protocols after fatal crash

Saint John Transit says it will be reviewing its safety protocols and training programs following a fatal collision.

A 71-year-old woman died after being struck by a bus at MacLaren Boulevard and Itty Bitty Way on Tuesday evening.

City spokesperson Erin White says they are cooperating with the police investigation and have provided all necessary resources, including the bus involved and onboard video footage.

“The driver involved in this incident is profoundly affected and is receiving support. We are committed to supporting our employees through this challenging time, recognizing the emotional toll an incident like this takes on everyone involved,” she said.

White added Saint John Transit is dedicated to taking necessary steps to prevent something like this from happening again.
