There will be a lot of splashing in puddles while holding onto that hat.
Southern parts of the province, including Saint John, the Kennebecasis Valley, St. Stephen, Sussex, and Charlotte County are under rainfall warnings, with up to 100 millimetres expected by Thursday morning.
Wind warnings are also in effect with gusts up to 100 kilometres per hour in the forecast.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Jill Maepea says rain will fall until Thursday morning, and the temperatures will then change.
“We are going to see a rapid freeze with that cold frontal passage beginning probably early Thursday in the west and it’ll progress eastward across the province. We’re expecting those temperatures to go from 10 degrees to below zero within a few hours,” Maepea says.
She adds whether or not it will be classified as a flash freeze remains to be seen, but we can expect open standing water or wet surfaces to freeze rapidly.
Maepea adds heavy rainfall on the frozen ground on Wednesday could mean some localized flooding along with road washouts.
