Less patients waiting for hip and knee surgery at Horizon hospitals

The waiting list for hip and knee replacements through Horizon is shrinking.

The Health network says it has eliminated the list of patients waiting a year or more at its facilities in New Brunswick.

In December 2022, that list contained around 700 names.

During the 2023-24 fiscal year, Horizon surgical teams completed 2,917 hip and knee replacements, 1,077 of which were long-waiting patients.

“The fact that we have been able to clear the waitlist for individuals who had been waiting more than a year for their procedure shows our commitment to improving access to surgical services for patients,” said Greg Doiron, Horizon’s Vice-President Clinical. “We recognize there is still more work to be done as we strive to bring wait times for other surgeries closer to national benchmarks.
