CSC confirms death and assault in N.B.

The Correctional Service of Canada has confirmed the death of an inmate at the Shepody Health Centre in New Brunswick.

The individual died on March 30.

“The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) takes the death of an inmate very seriously. The loss of life is always a tragedy,” a CSC spokesperson told us in an emailed statement.

For privacy reasons, no further details were released.

CSC has also confirmed the assault of an inmate at the Dorchester Penitentiary on April 1.

The inmate was treated at an outside hospital and returned to the Institution.

Assailants have been identified and CSC says it has taken appropriate actions.
