71-year-old man dies after stabbing in Fredericton

Charges have been laid against two youths after a fatal stabbing in Fredericton.

Police say a 71-year-old man was critically injured during a fight on Union Street on Friday night.

While being transported to hospital, he died of his injuries.

Fredericton Police have identified him as Mark Albert Brooks of Sitansisk (St. Mary’s) First Nation.

Two 17-year-old boys appeared in court on Saturday.

One is charged with second-degree murder and the other with manslaughter. Their identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

A third youth, a 15-year-old boy, was also arrested but has since been released.

Police say witness statements and video provided by local businesses assisted in the arrests.
