Efforts are being made to release an entangled North Atlantic right whale spotted in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
It was seen by a Canadian Whale Institute (CWI), Campobello Whale Rescue Team (CWRT) and Équipe de Désempêtrement du Golfe (EDG) vessel survey team.
The one-and-a-half-year-old female was first spotted on Saturday east of Miscou Island, New Brunswick.
The whale is now being monitored after a tracking tag was attached to the entangled fishing gear.
There’s no word on the type of fishing gear the whale is entangled in or where it originated.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada continues to monitor along with other organizations. Rescue and disentanglement efforts will happen in the coming days, pending weather conditions.
