A giant in the Canadian business industry will be laid to rest on Wednesday.
James K. Irving, known as J.K., died peacefully in Saint John on Friday at the age of 96.
He was the chairman of J.D. Irving, Limited, which was founded by his grandfather, James Dergavel Irving, in 1882.
Irving was also a founding partner of PALS, an initiative developed in Saint John to help schools address their students’ needs.
The billionaire businessman received several honours for his business and community leadership, including the Order of New Brunswick and Order of Canada.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. from Kingswood University’s Saunders Irving Chapel in Sussex.
That will be followed by a private burial with family in Bouctouche, where Irving will be laid to rest with his wife and parents.
