P.E.I. man sentenced in N.B. contraband tobacco seizure

A Prince Edward Island man has been sentenced after a contraband cigarette seizure in New Brunswick.

James Daniel Hodder was given a 12-month suspended sentence and fined more than $108,000, according to the Department of Justice and Public Safety.

Hodder was arrested in February after more than 82,000 contraband cigarettes were seized in the Miramichi region.

The 34-year-old man later pleaded guilty to three charges in connection with the seizure.

Officials said if the seized tobacco was destined for New Brunswick, it would have had a tax value of more than $33,000.
