Man charged in homicide sentenced to 8 years in prison

A northern New Brunswick man charged in a 2022 homicide investigation has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Nathan Meade, 40, was originally charged with second-degree murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Mounties say they attended a residence on Route 134 in Nash Creek for an unrelated matter on Nov. 6, 2022.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the members approached a 39-year-old man, who advised that he had just shot someone,” RCMP said in a news release.

Police located the body of 39-year-old Scott Devereaux from Belledune behind a shed on the property.

On Monday, Meade was sentenced to eight years in prison, minus time already served.
