Three people have died after a vehicle struck a tree and caught fire east of Fredericton.

RCMP said they received a call about a crash on Route 105 in Sheffield around 3:10 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators believe the eastbound vehicle swerved off the road, collided with a tree, and caught fire.

The three people inside the vehicle at the time of the crash were found dead, according to RCMP.

Autopsies will be scheduled to help positively identify the individuals and to determine their causes of death.

Investigators continue to piece together the cause of the crash.
