Part of Union Street to be closed for construction

More traffic headaches are coming for drivers in uptown Saint John starting on Friday.

Union Street will be closed to through traffic between Waterloo Street and Dorchester Street.

The city said the closure is needed for road repairs and reconstruction as part of the Charlotte Street reconstruction project.

Officials said the road will reopen for the weekend beginning Friday evening and close for 14 days starting Monday.

Road signage and sidewalk directional signage will be in place to identify the detour route for local traffic.

Motorists are being encouraged to use alternative routes if possible, including City Road and Lower Cove Loop.

Also, a reminder that Charlotte Street is closed to through traffic between King Street South and Princess Street.
