Man arrested in Saint John weapons investigation

Saint John police say a 48-year-old man has been arrested after an incident on Red Head Road.

Officers responded to a report of an armed man experiencing a mental health crisis around 2:40 a.m. Friday.

“While responding to the call, information was received that the man was in the house with a woman and that there were allegedly several firearms in the residence,” police said in a news release.

“Based on the intelligence known to officers, there were concerns for officer and public safety.”

As Emergency Tactical Services arrived on scene to negotiate with the man, he surrendered and was taken into custody around 4:30 a.m.

The man was taken to the hospital for further assessment and treatment, according to police.

Officers remain on the scene and plan to execute a public safety warrant.
