Sudden death at Saint John tent encampment

Saint John police are investigating a sudden death at a tent encampment in the city.

First responders were called to the 100 block of Paradise Row around 11 a.m. Saturday.

A 58-year-old man, who police identified as John Surette, was found dead in a tent.

“The deceased was transported to the hospital where an autopsy will be scheduled,” police said in a news release on Sunday.

The cause of death remains under investigation but police said it is not believed to be criminal in nature.
