Investigation clears RCMP of excessive force

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) found no excessive force by an RCMP officer during an arrest in St. Stephen.

RCMP officers were called to a special care home on July 28 and were asked to remove an intoxicated man from the property.

The man was arrested for public intoxication and taken to the St. George RCMP Detachment.

Officials say he complained of knee pain and was assessed twice by Ambulance New Brunswick paramedics.

He was first cleared to stay in a cell but was later taken to the hospital where they found a subtle fracture to the man’s femur.

On August 10, SiRT received a referral from the RCMP that was claiming the man was injured during the arrest.

After investigating, SiRT said they found no evidence of excessive force by the officer.
