Saint John police seek youth input on policing

A new committee will be giving youth a chance to voice their opinions on policing in Saint John.

The Saint John Police Force is inviting young people between the ages of 16 and 22 to join their new Youth Leadership Advisory Committee.

The committee will meet quarterly at the police headquarters uptown with Chief Robert Bruce and neighbourhood officers attending.

“They’ll have an opportunity to have some input in policing and the things that happen in the city when they’re young, so when they come back and live here or stay here, that it will be a community they’re proud of,” Bruce said.

Members who join will:

  • provide feedback on interactions with police officers
  • help shape future policing initiatives through dialogue
  • promote open communication and shared responsibility
  • discuss issues that affect young people in the community
  • share ideas to improve relationships between police and youth
  • advise the chief on policing matters and how they pertain to youth

Interested individuals need to fill out an application form. If you’re under 18, you’ll need parental consent.

Applications are open until Jan. 31. Selected applicants will be informed of the first meeting date and time.

For more details and to apply, visit the police force’s application page.
