CCLA discontinues abortion access legal challenge

A legal challenge in New Brunswick ensuring women and those gender diverse have equal abortion access has ended.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association launched the litigation against Regulation 84-20 in 2021.

In November, the new Liberal government under Premier Susan Holt, amended the law and removed the barrier restricting funding for surgical abortions outside of hospitals.

The Association says it continues to encourage the government to ensure increased access points for abortion care, and reduced wait times for abortion services.
