Residents living in apartments and condominiums will soon have improved access to recycling services.
Circular Materials, a not-for-profit producer responsibility organization, has expanded New Brunswick’s extended producer responsibility (EPR) recycling program to include multi-family dwellings.
The expansion will be rolled out in two phases:
Phase 1:
- Regions Covered: Northwest, Restigouche, Fundy, Southwest, Capital, and Western Valley
- Registration Deadline: January 31
- Service Start Date: May 1
Phase 2:
- Regions Covered: Chaleur, Acadian Peninsula, Miramichi, Kent, Southeast, and Kings
- Registration Deadline: May 30
- Service Start Date: November 1
Circular Materials highlighted that the recycling program is voluntary, but noted that some areas, such as Fredericton, have introduced bylaws to encourage participation.
Andrew Philopoulos, managing director at Circular Materials, explained the program will help increase recycling rates in the province.
“This program is available at no cost for residents and property owners/managers and will make recycling more accessible to residents of multi-family dwellings,” Philopoulos said.
After registering, the recycling collector for your area will contact you to go over the next steps and possibly schedule a site visit. Philopoulos said outreach is expected to start in March.
This program includes multi-family dwellings not currently serviced by the residential curbside program. The managing director said it does not include places meant for visitors, such as hotels.
Circular Materials will provide outdoor collection bins, promotional materials, and educational resources to support property managers and residents in practicing effective recycling.
They are encouraging residents to stay updated on what, where, and how to recycle in New Brunswick.
