UPDATE: Power restored after major transmission outage

Power has been restored to the remaining customers impacted by a transmission outage in the Fundy region.

More than 17,000 homes and businesses throughout the region first lost electricity around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Around 11,000 NB Power customers in the Kennebecasis Valley/Fundy region were impacted, along with 5,700 Saint John Energy customers on the city’s east side.

Most had their power restored by mid-evening Thursday, but around 500 homes and businesses in the St. Martins area were still without power as of Friday morning.

That forced the Anglophone South School District to close St. Martins School for the day.

Power was restored to the remaining customers by early Friday afternoon.

There is no word on what caused the transmission outage.
