Man charged after firearm discharged in Darlings Island

A Hampton man has been charged after a firearm was discharged in Darlings Island, according to RCMP.

Police responded to the firearm-related complaint on Darlings Island shortly before 10:30 p.m. last Wednesday.

Officers arrested a 45-year-old man outside of a residence and seized a firearm as part of the investigation.

“At the time, police believed the incident to have been isolated, and that there was no danger to the general public,” RCMP said in a news release on Tuesday.

The accused appeared in court the following day and was charged with break and enter, possessing a non-restricted firearm and careless use of a firearm.

He has since been remanded into custody and ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment.

Police said no one was hurt during the incident.
