A northeastern New Brunswick man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after an investigation into historical sexual offences.
The lengthy investigation began back in 2021 after the Northeast District RCMP received information from the public.
Officers searched a home in the Tracadie-Sheila area in October 2021, where they seized electronic devices and arrested a man.
He was later charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and child luring, as well as possessing, making and transmitting child pornography.
RCMP said the 58-year-old man later pleaded guilty to all of the charges and was sentenced to prison time on April 1.
He was also ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for 20 years and to provide a DNA sample.
The man will be prohibited from owning firearms for 10 years and from owning a restricted or prohibited firearm for life.
Once he is released, he will not be allowed to communicate with anyone under the age of 16 or go anywhere that someone under the age of 16 is known to be for 20 years.
A publication ban was ordered in the case in order to protect the identity of the victim, according to police.
