More confusion and uncertainty surrounding some of the tariffs by the Trump administration.
A United States appeals court has paused a ruling from earlier this week that struck down some of them.
The U.S. Court of International Trade ruled Wednesday that Trump overstepped his legal authority when he used emergency powers to justify broad tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and other countries.
As a result, the ruling cancelled a 25 per cent tariff that had been applied to a wide range of Canadian and Mexican products not compliant with the free trade agreement under a so-called fentanyl emergency.
But on Thursday, less than 24 hours after the initial ruling, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit reinstated the tariffs for the time being and ordered both sides to file written arguments by early next month.
